MetroPCS reports increases in revenue and subscribers in Q3

Regional carrier MetroPCS announced it had roughly 250,000 net subscriber additions in the three months to 30 September 2008, taking its total past five million. The company reported revenue for the third quarter of USD687 million, an increase of about 25% from the same period last year. Net income stood at USD45 million, down from USD53 million for the same period last year. Average revenue per user (ARPU) dropped to USD40.42 as more customers enrolled in lower cost family plans.

The company revealed its expansion plans for the next few years, and expects to attract between 1.4 million and 1.7 million new customers by the end of 2009. It also plans to build out its network to cover more than 40 million potential subscribers by 2010.
