Third wireless licence tender launched

5 Nov 2008

The telecoms regulator of Trinidad and Tobago has announced plans to award a third mobile licence in the country carrying spectrum in both the 800MHz and 1900MHz bands. The tender process will close in February 2009 and is open to any interested entity which is not already a concessionaire or significant shareholder in an existing telecoms licensee on the islands. The newcomer will compete with TSTT and Digicel. A third operator, Laqtel, was granted an operating licence in 2005, but was unable to pay its licence fees and had its concession cancelled earlier this year.
