State to sell AMC stake

5 Nov 2008

The Albania press is reporting that the Albanian government is looking to sell its 12.68% stake in Albanian Mobile Communication (AMC). According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database AMC is currently 85% owned by COSMO-Holding Albania, in which Greek cellco Cosmote holds 97% and Telenor 3%. The state has been rumoured to be mulling its exit from the company since March 2007; Cosmote is believed to be interested in acquiring the shares ‘at a reasonable price’. At the end of June 2008 AMC had 1.28 million subscribers at just over 51% market share, ahead of rivals Vodafone Albania and Eagle Mobile.
