ASEP regulates base station installations

3 Nov 2008

The Panamanian regulator, Autoridad Nacional de los Servicios Publicos (ASEP), has ordered all companies that install base stations in the country to share structures with other operators in a bid to avoid duplication or proliferation, local news source La Estrella is reporting. ASEP has also noted that, in those cases where an agreement cannot be reached for sharing, it will intervene if any party requests. The decision comes as a result of a recent decree which appointed the regulator, alongside the Health Ministry, to set up the technical norms for installations. Those operators that have already had antennas approved for installation will be unaffected by the regulation.
