DTAC profit up 34.7% on yearly basis, down 53% from 2Q

28 Oct 2008

Thailand’s second largest cellco by users DTAC announced yesterday that its third-quarter net profit rose 34.7% year-on-year to THB1.836 billion (USD53 million), up from THB1.362 billion a year earlier as costs were reduced, but down 53.0% from THB3.904 billion in the previous quarter, mainly due to a one-time gain in 2Q from a settlement from minor operator DPC. Total revenues in the three months to the end of September 2008 were THB16.725 billion, up 2.3% y-o-y but down by 0.9% quarter-on-quarter. DTAC added 780,425 subscribers in 3Q08, bringing its total user base to 18.213 million. Customer growth was boosted by strong pre-paid take-up in provincial areas and strong post-paid net additions, with the cellco’s contract base growing by 7.5% q-o-q to 2.351 million. DTAC is majority owned by Norway’s Telenor, which reports its 3Q group results tomorrow.
