Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) has won a contract to upgrade and extend 3 Ireland’s 3G network in the Republic and also to provide the cellco with ‘internet High Speed Packet Access (I-HSPA)’ technology, a platform that is optimised for carrying high volumes of data traffic, using all-internet protocol (IP) backhaul. 3 Ireland says it is experiencing growing demand for high speed broadband connectivity across Ireland. The NSN network extension will allow datacard and handset users to have access to high speed, high-capacity wireless broadband, with enhanced voice, data and multimedia capability built on High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) technology.
