Tigo set for 3G expansion in 2009

20 Oct 2008

Bolivian cellco Telecel, which operates using the Tigo brand, is planning to expand its 3G coverage to a ‘group of important cities in the country’, BNamericas is reporting, citing Eduardo Vinas, Telecel’s regulatory issues manager. It is understood that the cities that will be covered have not yet been decided, although the operator is currently finalising its plans for the expansion. The announcement comes after Tigo launched commercial 3G services in Santa Cruz, Cochabamba and the capital La Paz in August 2008, having signed a deal with Chinese hardware vendor Huawei Technologies for the equipment for the rollout.
