UAE incumbent Etisalat has launched its ‘BusinessOne’ unlimited broadband package with no monthly volume caps, and by way of promotion, the giant telco is offering two months’ rental free to those who sign up within the next three months. ‘The launch of the new…package will…greatly assist businesses throughout the UAE to improve their productivity and enhance employee performance thus resulting in direct benefits for the UAE,’ said a company spokesman Abdulla Hashim. BusinessOne packages are available at downlink speeds of between 512kbps and 4Mbps, and previously were only available with data limits of up to 60GB per month. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Etisalat holds a monopoly on DSL access in the UAE, and had an estimated 420,000 subscribers midway through 2008. Its rival Du only currently supplies broadband to certain ‘free economic zones’ in Dubai, though it is said to have successfully tested WiMAX technology and is planning to deploy a network in the future.
