Entel closing in on two million customers

16 Oct 2008

BNamericas is reporting that Bolivian cellco Entel Movil has almost reached two million subscribers, citing reports from state news service Agencia Boliviana de Informacion (ABI). Since its renationalisation in May 2008 the cellco is understood to have pursued an aggressive investment strategy, extending coverage by increasing the number of base stations it has deployed across the country in both rural and urban regions. Additionally, the report claims that the operator is adding approximately 50,000 new connections per month. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Entel Movil is the largest cellco by subscribers in Bolivia, claiming 43.4% of the market at the end of June 2008, with rivals Telecel and NuevaTel holding 28.8% and 27.8% respectively.
