Nationwide MNP launches

Nationwide mobile number portability (MNP) has been launched in Malaysia, following trials in a limited area last month, The Edge Daily is reporting. The service was initially only available to customers in the Klang Valley area, with the trial commencing on 29 August for pre-paid users and 15 September for post-paid. During the trial period the operators taking part – Celcom, DiGi, Maxis and U-Mobile – were only able to accept 100 requests per day with excess requests not fulfilled until the following day; the trial was also only open to residential customers. Operators will be allowed to charge a maximum of MYR25 (USD7.16) for the service, although it is expected that companies may absorb the charge in a bid to attract new customers.
