15 Oct 2008

British fixed line and broadband provider Carphone Warehouse has issued a trading update for the thirteen weeks to 27 September 2008, reporting the unbundling of a further broadband 106,000 customers; the operator claims it has over two million unbundled broadband customers, representing 73% of its total broadband subscriber base. The operator also stated its net broadband additions totalled 41,000 over the period, although it noted it had sold 6,000 AOL-branded cable customers to Virgin Media. Non-broadband customers fell by 137,000 over the period to 1.3 million. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Carphone Warehouse revised its expectations for broadband additions at the end of July 2008, cutting its forecast from 400,000 to 250,000; the operator has reiterated its focus on retaining existing customers rather than aggressively pursuing new customers.
