According to data from the pay television association ABTA and pay-TV companies’ union SETA, the country’s pay-TV market expanded by 12.7% year-on-year to 5.5 million homes by the end of June 2008. In addition, the data showed that a total of 2.1 million users were subscribed to high speed broadband internet services at the same date, up 52% on the corresponding period of 2007. However, it must be noted that ABTA and SETA classify broadband as offering ‘speeds above 56kbps’, which falls short of TeleGeography’s minimum definition of at least 256kbps in any direction.
