UK-based wireless coverage solutions provider Axell Wireless is deploying a mobile communications system for the Stockholm Metro railway, under a turnkey contract awarded by the city’s transportation provider Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (SL) in August, the company announced in a press release. The project involves an implementation of an Enhanced Radio Distribution system covering 72 Metro railway stations, encompassing supply, installation and commissioning of fixed and wireless network equipment, as well as redundancy facilities to minimise the effects of malfunctions, and a ten-year maintenance period. The new network, due to be in operation at the beginning of March 2009, supports SL’s existing TETRA and Busskom wireless communications platforms and incorporates an option to provide CDMA-450 mobile coverage in the future.
