Porta expands 3G to Manta

Ecuadorian mobile operator Conecel (Porta), part of the America Movil group, has expanded its commercial 3G UMTS services to the city of Manta, reports BNamericas citing local press. Porta already provides W-CDMA-based mobile services in other major urban areas including the capital Quito, Guayaquil, Santo Domingo, Machala, Cuenca and Milagro, with a 3G application range including mobile broadband internet access and videocalling, whilst the company recently told BNamericas that it also plans to launch mobile TV. Porta’s UMTS network was launched in Quito in August 2007.
