eMobile submits application for Tokyo LTE field trial licence

7 Oct 2008

Japanese mobile operator eMobile, part of the eAccess group, has submitted an application for a trial Long Term Evolution (LTE) permit in the Shimbashi area of the Minato ward in Tokyo. Telecompaper reports that the cellco and its parent have applied to the regulator, the MIC, for rights to conduct a field trial from late December this year until end-May 2009. It is understood the trial will look at radiowave propagation, throughput, evaluate MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) transmission performance, test applications (including VoIP, streaming and online gaming), and conduct a multi-cell, multi-user test (covering interference characteristics, sector throughput and handover technology, amongst other things). The companies aim to adopt LTE during 1H 2011.
