Conatel favours internet shake-up

6 Oct 2008

Paraguay’s telecoms regulator Conatel says the liberalisation of the country’s internet sector could be completed in as little as two to three months should the necessary reforms to legislation take place. Conatel is currently discussing the future of the internet market with players including state-owned monopoly provider Copaco, private ISPs and the internet users’ association. Conatel is in favour of market liberalisation, BNamericas claims citing a report from local newspaper ABC Color, as it will help boost the broadband internet market in a country which has one of the lowest broadband penetration rates in Latin America.
