Antel completes modernisation ahead of schedule

According to BNamericas, Uruguayan state-owned telco Antel has completed the modernisation of its telecoms network around the capital Montevideo three months ahead of schedule. The project involved substituting 18,000 wireless local loop (WiLL) connections for copper pairs and fixed GSM lines. WiLL technology allowed the company to cover unaddressed demand a decade ago, but with new developments the technology had become obsolete.
