HT Mobile's GSM launch imminent

3 Oct 2008

According to VietNamNet Bridge, HT Mobile is on the brink of re-entering the country’s mobile market with the launch of GSM services expected to take place in the next few months. The cellco abandoned its CDMA network in 2007 and asked for the government’s permission to switch to the GSM standard. It received a GSM concession on 15 March 2008 and has since spent more than USD600 million on equipment from Ericsson and Huawei. By the start of October the company plans to have deployed 5,000 base stations.
