3 Oct 2008

Indonesia’s newest mobile operator Axis has selected China’s Huawei as a key partner in its national 2G and 3G network rollout programme, TMCnet reports. Axis is owned by Natrindo Telepon Seluler which had been operating a GSM network in Indonesia since 2001 under the Lippotel brand, but which re-launched an expanded GSM service in Java in April this year. Under the deal, Huawei will be responsible for designing, deploying and managing Axis’ GSM and UMTS networks on Java, Bali, Lombok, Kalimantan and Sulawesi. The Chinese equipment supplier will also be responsible for 4,000 Axis cell sites across the country and will provide a nationwide core network and intelligent network (IN) system for the operator.
