2 Oct 2008

BNamericas is reporting that regional wireless equipment distributor Brightstar and Bolivian mobile operator Nuevatel have signed an agreement for the delivery of WiMAX customer premises equipment (CPE) for the latter’s recently deployed WiMAX network. Nuevatel, which offers services under the ‘Viva’ brand, launched commercial WiMAX services in four cities – La Paz, Cochabamba, Santa Cruz and El Alto – in May 2008, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database. ‘Our WiMAX solution enables us to offer a wireless broadband solution with new services to our customers in major urban centres, such as the cities of La Paz, El Alto, Santa Cruz and Cochabamba, and Brightstar’s WiMAX portfolio brings us an exciting opportunity to enhance and broaden this service,’ said Freddy Maldonado Valcik, Nuevatel’s CEO.
