Australian wireless operator Unwired has shortlisted three potential hardware suppliers, Huawei, Alcatel-Lucent and Motorola, for its WiMAX network rollout, ZDNet Australia is reporting. The announcement comes as Unwired prepares to upgrade from its current pre-WiMAX infrastructure that was supplied by Navini Networks. No date has been announced for a final decision to be made on the tender. It has also been confirmed that, when the WiMAX rollout does take place, the older network equipment will not be decommissioned. According to the report Unwired currently has over 75,000 subscribers and the operator has spectrum for a planned deployment in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Geelong, Newcastle and along the central coast.
