Antel VP says mobile market is near saturation point

1 Oct 2008

Antel vice-president Gonzalo Perera has stated that he believes the country’s mobile market is close to saturation, reports BNamericas citing quotes made by the executive which appeared in local newspaper El Pais. The wireless penetration rate stood at just over 100% at the end of June 2008, and though Perera believes the market can grow from 3.5 million to four million subscribers, he also stated that operators should focus on migrating to new technologies and providing value added services. Antel plans to invest USD140 million on mobile services via its wireless operating subsidiary Ancel. The cellco claimed an approximate 39% share of the subscriber market at the end of June 2008.
