Sierratel has revealed that it is on the verge of launching new CDMA2000-based wireless in the local loop (WiLL) services under the brand name LeoneCel, reports local newspaper Awareness Times. The telco’s managing director, Alpha Sesay, said that the network will have capacity for 100,000 customers and will initially cover the capital Freetown and 14 towns in the provinces. The 14 towns include Lunsar, Makeni, Njala, Magburaka, Moyamba, Bo, Kenema, Segbwema and Koidu. ‘Lack of investment in the company over the past several years has been a major barrier for the company’s lack of capability to compete effectively with other networks,’ Sesay added. The network will be launched commercially in November.
