Regulator authorises Embratel long-distance price hike

29 Sep 2008

Brazil’s telecoms regulator Anatel has given the green light for fixed line operator Embratel to increase its rates for intercity and international long-distance telephony calls by 1.15%, reports BNamericas citing a statement from the watchdog. The price hike is based on the IST, a sector-specific index used to define annual tariffs in telephony, accumulated from July 2007 to June 2008, as well as on the carriers’ financial performance over the period. In July this year, Anatel authorised adjustments of 2.76% for Oi (Telemar) and increases of 3.01% for Telefonica, Brasil Telecom, Sercomtel and CTBC Telecom.
