Finnish telecoms equipment vendor Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) has announced that Uzbeki wireless network operator Ucell (formerly known as Coscom), 74% owned by TeliaSonera, has launched a trial W-CDMA/HSPA network in Tashkent and Samarkand. The NSN solution permits theoretical download speeds of up to 7.2Mbps and upload speeds of 1.4Mbps, enabling services such as video calling, mobile TV, video on demand and high speed internet access. ‘We are excited at having the privilege to be the pioneer in bringing this technology to the country and celebrating this historic event together with Uzbekistan,’ said Oguz Memiguven, Director General of Ucell.
