Southern Telecom net profit up 12.9%

Southern Telecom, the leading fixed-line operator in the south of Russia and a subsidiary of state telecoms holding company Svyazinvest, reported net profit for the first half of 2008 rose 12.9% compared to the same period in 2007 to RUB813 million (USD32.43 million). Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) dropped to RUB3.68 billion from RUB3.77 billion year-on-year, while EBITDA margin fell to 35.2% from 38.4%. Total revenues increased 6.4% to RUB10.45 billion due mainly to expansion of the company’s broadband user base and an increase in local voice telephony services.
