The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has clarified that there is no deferment on access to the high speed broadband network (HSBB) being built by Telekom Malaysia™, despite indications that a seven-year deferment period had been granted. According to MCMC chief operating officer Mohamed Sharil Tarmizi the seven-year deferment period mentioned in the recently released HSBB contract relates to TM’s copper network, and the regulator still expects to finalise terms of access for the new network with the incumbent within the next six months. The MYR11.31 billion (USD3.3 billion) project is expected to be completed by 2010.
