New priorities for Comcast

Following last year’s run-in with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) after Comcast deliberately limited traffic for certain applications, the cable provider has now revealed its long-term solution for managing broadband traffic. Rather than limit traffic based on certain protocols, Comcast’s new system will prioritise access based on how much bandwidth a user is occupying. The outcome should be slower speeds for peer-to-peer applications which require higher bandwidth, but improved speeds for normal internet access such as viewing web pages, during busy periods.
