Russian WiMAX operator Scartel has chosen Bridgewater Systems of Canada to provide a service control solution to support advanced IP services on Scartel’s mobile WiMAX networks in Moscow and St Petersburg. The Bridgewater service control solution will enable the operator to support subscriber management functions such as authentication, authorisation and accounting (AAA) services. Scartel plans to have deployed networks covering the two cities by the end of this year. It recently began trials of 802.16e technology with Korean equipment vendor Samsung. Scartel’s networks are using frequencies in the 2.5GHz-2.7GHz band and should cover an area which is home to around 20 million people.
