SLT’s delayed IPTV service on air today

22 Sep 2008

Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) launched commercial IPTV broadcasting services today following delays caused by a slow rollout of ADSL2+ technology and problems with certain TV channels reported by test users. The IPTV deployment, originally scheduled to be completed last month, was based on UTStarcom’s RollingStream platform. SLT’s wholly owned subsidiary Visioncom has invested around USD1 million in the initial launch of its TV-over-ADSL system, which is designed to support approximately 100,000 subscribers in the next two years.
