Carphone Warehouse bids low for Tiscali’s British operations

22 Sep 2008

According to British newspaper The Sunday Times, Carphone Warehouse has tabled a new bid for the British arm of broadband provider Tiscali of less than GBP450 million (USD824 million); the offer is significantly less than the GBP600 million that was originally expected. The report claims that a second bid is under consideration, although no details have been revealed regarding the second bidder’s identity. Tiscali offered itself for sale in May 2008, but missed a self-imposed deadline to finalise a deal by the end of June as potential suitors including BT, Vodafone and BSkyB walked away from negotiations; all three are understood to have left open the option to return with new bids.
