O2 Germany has announced that it has launched parts of its EDGE network in southern Germany. According to a press release, 700 sites will now provide EDGE rather than GPRS connectivity if a customer goes beyond the company’s W-CDMA network. By the end of 2008 4,500 sites will have been upgraded with EDGE. The company has also revealed that 75% of its W-CDMA network has been upgraded to 3.6Mbps downlink HSDPA. The cellco plans to rollout downlaod speeds of up to 7.2Mbps, as well as HSUPA in 2009 to provide faster uplink speeds.
