O2 Germany has announced that it has launched parts of its EDGE network in southern Germany. According to a press release, 700 sites will now provide EDGE rather than GPRS connectivity if a customer goes beyond the company’s W-CDMA network. By the end of 2008 4,500 sites will have been upgraded with EDGE. The company has also revealed that 75% of its W-CDMA network has been upgraded to 3.6Mbps downlink HSDPA.
