Zamtel fails to repair link with France

17 Sep 2008

Network World is reporting that, following the collapse of Zambia’s international route to France in August this year, there is no indication that it will be repaired in the near future according to Minister of Communications and Transport, Dora Siliya. Ms Siliya confirmed that the country was unable to handle inbound or outbound calls to France last week, whilst also revealing that similar issues connecting to South Africa had been resolved. Despite these issues the minister claims that Zambia Telecommunications’ (Zamtel) current international switch is capable of handling the communication demands of the country’s mobile operators; Zamtel is reported to have recently acquired and installed a next generation switch from Ericsson.
