Celcom inks MVNO agreement with XOX

17 Sep 2008

The former wireless arm of Telekom Malaysia, Celcom, has announced that it has signed a deal allowing XOX Com to act as a mobile virtual network provider (MVNO) on its network, Malaysian news source The Edge Daily is reporting. The new MVNO venture will target the Chinese community in Malaysia, continuing Celcom’s trend of marketing to niche segments through partner arrangements. XOX is aiming to reach 500,000 sign-ups in its first three years of operation and will provide services in Chinese; no commercial launch date for the service was revealed. XOX is the fourth MVNO to enter the Malaysian market, following Merchantrade, REDtone and Tune Talk, all of whom piggyback on Celcom’s network and offer services to specific segment of the market; Merchantrade focuses on foreign Indian workers while REDtone targets the Chinese enterprise market.
