Morgan Stanley bags contract to market broadcast spectrum

The Financial Times is reporting that Morgan Stanley has won the contract to market the prime broadcast spectrum that will be freed once television stations switch from analogue to digital signals in 2012. The auction will see approximately 128MHz of spectrum in the 700MHz band made available, and it is expected that the auction will raise up to GBP5 billion (USD8.97 billion). Interested parties are likely to include mobile operators looking to roll out wireless networks in urban area and Ofcom, the communications regulator, is expected to begin the auction process by early 2010.
