Comreg has revealed that Ireland’s telecoms sector recorded revenues of EUR1.1 billion (USD1.5 billion) in the second quarter of 2008, up 0.2% against the first quarter of the year but down 1.1% year-on-year. Of the total, fixed line services accounted for 51.4%, remaining ahead of wireless services on 44.1%. The broadband market continues to grow, with more than 1.05 million high speed internet subscribers at 30 June, while the mobile subscriber base totalled 5.2 million giving a cellular penetration rate of 120%.
