The two largest alternative fixed line providers in Croatia reportedly gained 21% of total wireline subscribers in the country by the middle of 2008. Domestically-owned Optima Telekom reached a fixed line subscriber base of 233,000 by the end of June, up by 12% in twelve months, whilst fellow Croatian-run firm H1 Telekom (formerly Portus) achieved 30% year-on-year growth to claim 100,000 customers by the mid-year point. Meanwhile, incumbent PSTN operator T-Hrvatski Telekom (T-HT), a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom which uses the T-Com brand, saw a 3.5% decline in its number of fixed line users to 1.58 million. H1 Telekom’s unbundled ‘ADSL 2+ with voice’ service is currently available to 350,000 households, according to its director of marketing, Hrvoje Lapic.
