Japan’s leading mobile operator by subscribers, NTT DoCoMo, has selected NEC to provide an Evolved Packet Core (EPC) network capable of supporting its so-called ‘Super 3G’ next generation wireless networks. Cellular-news reports that NEC has already been selected as a Super 3G wireless base station and terminal provider for the cellco. The latest order puts NEC in pole position to become DoCoMo’s sole Super 3G system vendor, the online journal says. Super 3G is an advanced version of HSDPA and HSUPA, which is capable of delivering data transmission speeds of over 100Mbps (downlink) and >50Mbps (uplink).
