Maxcom preparing IPTV expansion

According to Mexican broadband provider Maxcom’s director General Rene Sagastuy, the telco is set to expand its fibre network with the aim of delivering IPTV services to more cities in the country, IPTV News is reporting. Mr Sagastuy said that Maxcom is focusing on the development of its IPTV technology, with the operator claiming that its fibre network now stretches over 6,000km. ‘In just ten months we have added 12,000 televisions to our customer base, or 12% of the total,’ Sagastuy said, also revealing plans for the operator to launch its ‘Web TV’ service, aimed at low income users, by the end of September 2008; the service will allow users to connect a keyboard to their TV and browse the internet. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Maxcom has set aside USD250 million for investment in 2008/09, with the funds expected to be used for network expansion and the launch of new services.
