Zain’s USD364m Kenyan promise

Reuters reports that Kenyan mobile operator Zain, part of the Kuwaiti-based group of the same name, plans to invest USD364 million to upgrade its network capacity and services over the next two years, according to a statement from its managing director Rene Meza. Before the end of the year, Zain plans to spend USD44 million to improve capacity and coverage in rural areas and to upgrade its data systems. ‘The new development is aimed at strengthening the company’s state of the art network in high traffic areas,’ said Meza. The cellco claims to have invested around USD484 million in Kenya to date.
