Vodafone’s Czech mobile unit has purchased fellow high speed wireless broadband internet firm BroadNet for an undisclosed fee from Comcast Corporation of the US, iDNES.cz reports. Vodafone intends to absorb BroadNet’s products and services into its own portfolio, the online journal says. BroadNet focuses on building its own wireless network infrastructure and is not dependent on national incumbent Telefonica O2 CR. It offers services primarily to the corporate sector over a privately owned local access network offering transmission rates of up to 34Mbps. In 2000 and 2004, BroadNet Czech was awarded licences to build LMDS networks in the 26GHz and 28GHz bands. The purchase will enable Vodafone to expand its operations into the Czech corporate, fixed-mobile arena.
