Hanaro Telecom has selected Israeli firm Corrigent to provide the main network infrastructure for the Korean telco’s delivery of premium IPTV services. Hanaro, Korea’s second largest broadband carrier, plans to offer differentiated content and value-added services as part of its IPTV service. No financial details of the agreement were revealed. Additionally, having launched a 100Mbps broadband access service for residential areas the Korean operator has stated that it plans to increase its penetration using FTTH technology. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Hanaro has stated that it hopes to expand its IPTV subscriber base to 1.3 million by the end of 2008, whilst it claimed 24.18% of the South Korean broadband market at the end of March 2008, trailing KT Corp which held 44.20%.
