Omantel has announced that it plans to launch a VoIP service before the end of 2008, reports Gulf News. ‘We are ready to launch VoIP in November as we have everything in place for the launch except for a small technical snag’, said the CEO of Omantel, Dr Mohammad Bin Ali Al Who-aibi. He went on to state that the infrastructure was in place, tests had been carried out and that the tariff for VoIP had been approved by the regulator, the TRA. The move follows a recent tariff cut for local calls to and from fixed lines, as well as an 18% reduction in international calls, as the telco gears up for the anticipated arrival of a second fixed line operator.
