Indosat picks NEC for mobile backhaul

1 Sep 2008

Indonesian telecoms operator Indosat has selected NEC Corp of Japan to supply its mobile division Satelindo with a new mobile backhaul platform to allow it to migrate its existing networks and services onto a fully IP structure. Under the project, NEC will implement its ultra-compact microwave communications systems, PASOLINK and CX2600 service consolidation switches, enabling Indosat to make its entire 3G network ‘IP-ready’ at the earliest opportunity. The operator is keen to keep pace with rivals and maintain market share in a fiercely competitive mobile market. The deployment of NEC’s CX2600 equipment will allow it to manage existing legacy circuits and bundle them into an IP structure. The system is then incorporated with the vendor’s PASOLINK technologies, creating a cost effective, all-IP-based mobile backhaul platform.
