FCC to test AWS interference

1 Sep 2008

The US telecoms regulator, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), is to carry out tests to determine whether spectrum it plans to auction next year will cause interference to existing wireless internet services. FCC engineers will conduct tests at T-Mobile’s lab in Seattle. T-Mobile has expressed concerns that spectrum being offered in the 2155MHz-2180MHz Advanced Wireless Service (AWS) band will affect its own AWS offering which operates in an adjacent band. The FCC wants 25% of the new AWS spectrum to be used to create a national network which will provide free wireless internet access.
