Comcast confirms data cap

1 Sep 2008

The US cable operator Comcast has confirmed that it is introducing a 250GB monthly cap on data transfer for residential subscribers. The new limit will be introduced on 1 October and will affect both downloads and uploads. The announcement comes after US telecoms regulator the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) ordered Comcast to stop blocking traffic on peer-to-peer applications such as BitTorrent. Comcast says the limit is being implemented to ease network congestion and will affect only a small minority of customers who transfer large files such as movies.
