Tigo launches 3G services

BNamericas is reporting that mobile operator Telecel (Tigo) has launched commercial 3G services in Bolivia, with the operator offering services including videocalling, high speed mobile broadband and music and video downloads. No details of network coverage have been announced, although the operator has stated its intention to eventually roll out 3G services nationwide. At the end of the second quarter of this year, Tigo had 1.19 million mobile telephony subscribers, up 29% compared to the same period a year earlier, and the operator is currently in the process of migrating its few remaining TDMA customers across to its GSM network.
