FNA may exempt competitive cities from regulations

27 Aug 2008

The Federal Network Agency (FNA) may exempt cities and urban centres in which companies besides Deutsche Telekom are operating their own high speed networks, reports Thomson Financial quoting local newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. ‘Where markets and competition are working in a sustained way, we don’t have to interfere. But besides opportunities, such a regional differentiation also holds risks, meaning that all aspects have to be examined very carefully before a decision is made,’ said FNA president Matthias Kurth. The watchdog is expected to publish a position paper in the near future.
