Telcel and Ericsson sign microwave transmission deal

BNamericas is reporting that Mexican mobile operator Telcel has selected Swedish telecoms equipment supplier Ericsson to provide microwave transmission links for its high speed mobile broadband services; the agreement is Ericsson’s largest Latin American microwave deal to date according to the vendor. The contract will see Ericsson provide Telcel with transmission links for 2G and 3G/HSPA based on the Ericsson MINI-LINK TN solution, with the turnkey project expected to begin rollout in the third quarter of 2008. The solution is expected to enable Telcel to increase its network coverage and subscriber base while lowering operating expenses. No financial details of the deal were revealed.
