Orange Poland admits to iPhone jiggery pokery

Polish cellco PTK Centertel, which operates under the trade name Orange Poland, has admitted that it hired actors to queue outside its stores last Friday, in an attempt to generate interest in the Apple iPhone, as it went on sale for the first time. ‘It was a part of our marketing strategy, the concept was thought up at Orange Poland,’ the company said in an email to the Associated Press. Unlike the US and UK, where exclusive iPhone rights are held by AT&T and O2 respectively, Poland has two network operators that are approved to sell the iPhone. Orange Poland faces competition for Apple sales from Polska Telefonica Cyfrowa (PTC).
